Keynote provides a variety of visual effects for use as transitions between slides. You can specify how quickly a slide transition plays. Set up slide transitions in the Transition pane of the Slide inspector.
Click Inspector in the toolbar, and then click the Slide button. Click Transition.
Choose an option from the Effect pop-up menu, where transitions are grouped by type, as described below.
If you see “Effects that can’t play on this computer,” these transitions require an advanced graphics card in your computer.
Some transition styles work best with particular types of content. These “content-aware” transitions create effects based on the images or text on your slides. The first three sets of transitions described below are content-aware transitions.
To preview the transition in the inspector window, click the thumbnail image in the Transition pane.
Or click Play in the toolbar to watch the animation in full screen.
To change how much time it takes to complete the transition, type a value in the Duration field (or click the arrows).
Choose an option from the Direction pop-up menu (not applicable for all effects).
Choose an option from the Start Transition pop-up menu.
If you want to initiate the transition only after you click to advance to the next slide, choose On Click.
If you want the transition to begin automatically after the current slide has been displayed for a set amount of time, choose Automatically. In the Delay field, specify how long to linger on the current slide before initiating the transition to the next slide.
If you chose an effect with additional options (such as Mosaic, Swap, or Fade Through Color), select the settings you want.
If your Cube or Flip transitions appear clipped when you play your slideshow: Parts of Cube and Flip transitions might not be visible if “Scale slides up to fit display” is selected in the Slideshow pane of Keynote preferences. To ensure that these transitions aren’t clipped during your slideshow, either deselect “Scale slides up to fit display” or select one or both of the “Reduce transitions to avoid clipping” options in the Slideshow preferences pane. (Choose Keynote > Preferences, and then click Slideshow.)
